Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for giving Senate tickets on merit.
A meeting of the PTI Parliamentary Board was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister.
Sources said that the parliamentary board should submit its recommendations regarding the Senate elections to the Prime Minister.
Imran Khan said that this time Senate tickets should be given to long standing PTI workers, this time the tradition of giving tickets to capitalists and feudal lords would die down.
Sources said that in the recommendations, Shibli Faraz was recommended to be made a senator once again, while Abdul Hafeez Sheikh's name was shortlisted for technocrats.
The name of PTI coordinator Saifullah Niazi was also shortlisted and the name of Kamil Ali Agha from the coalition party was also shortlisted.
Sources said that the name of Dr Zarqa was also shortlisted among the women. The final candidates will be announced by the Prime Minister himself in a few days.
Elections for the 48 Senate seats will be held on March 3.
The Election Commission has released the schedule for the Senate elections. Nominations can be submitted to the Returning Officer on February 12 and 13.
The final list of candidates will be posted on February 23. Candidates will be able to withdraw from the contest till 12 noon on March 2
