WhatsApp is the world's most popular messaging app, but photos and videos received by users quickly fill the phone's storage.
But now the company has come up with a unique solution to save phone storage.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, a website that monitors WhatsApp updates, Facebook-owned messaging app has decided to update one of its features for this purpose.
WhatsApp introduced the Disappearing Messages feature in November last year, which enables in certain chats to help disappear messages in 7 days.
WhatsApp is now extending the period of missing messages to 90 days and this feature is currently available in the beta version of Android.
Since deleting messages after 90 days will not protect privacy, the company will use this feature as a storage saver.
This means that when the messages are automatically deleted after 90 days, the storage space will be cleared and the user will not have to do it manually.
WhatsApp will provide users with a total of 3 options in this feature.
In addition to 7 days and 90 days, another option will be 24 hours.
The company has been working on the 24-hour option since April 2021 and now with the 90-day option, it can soon be introduced to all customers.
View Once, WhatsApp had earlier in August 2021 introduced a disruptive message feature called View Once.
Photos and videos sent in this new feature can only be viewed once and then the media files disappear.
According to the company, it is possible to take a screenshot of these photos without the knowledge of the sender.
According to WhatsApp, this feature can be used to send sensitive information, such as a picture of a Wi-Fi password.
